JUBILEE COURSE

Whether you’re looking for a course that tests your skills and patience, or if you simply want to enjoy the best of St Andrews’ scenery on your golfing holiday, the Jubilee Course comes highly recommended. Opened in 1897 in honour of Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee, it was the third course to be built at St Andrews Links. The Jubilee is set on the narrow strip of land separating the New Course from St Andrews Bay. Combined with its high tees, this course enjoys the most advantageous view of the bay and the North Sea of any St Andrews course.

It was originally designed as a beginners’ 12-hole course by John Angus, but it was upgraded to a championship standard in 1988 by David Steel. Since then, it has been considered the most challenging course in St Andrews and Fife. To conquer it, you have to evade difficult driving holes, battle strong winds, and ace a series of par-4s on the home stretch. That said, the Jubilee does benefit from having a more standardised out-and-back layout than St Andrews’ quirky Old and New, which makes it easier to navigate. While the course can be somewhat intimidating, it’s a privilege for any golfer to tee up on the Jubilee regardless of the outcome.
